[I wrote this poem whilst at university for a magazine called BAIT. It was cool, no doubt. I wrote the poem after listening to some Mahler nine, i think. It was the first time any of my poetry had been in print in any way.]
Space
A shimmering violin string,
quivering on the breath of sky,
that dies with a dying fall
and the light flickers– a glimpse
of the vast space in-between
now and eternity.
To speak of sincerity one
may be crucified but it means
more than the void of cynic-speech.
One drop of light in the inky blackness
that expands to fill and warm and hug
this yellow sun,
Reaching higher and higher through silence
until floating on a sound beyond movement.
Still
in the shimmering dark
the violin threads its way
into the space of hope.
Breathing a fresh light
a true light of blue sky and yes!
