about me
I, James Hendy, (see the unhelpful picture of me conducting, right) am a musician living and working in London. I was born in Kuala Lumpur on 1st October 1997 and – with a stop-off in Hong Kong for Sunshine nursery – came over to Plymouth, England in the early 2000s to grow up. I went to some schools, took a some gap years and studied music at Cambridge (2018-21) in the exuberantly red-bricked Robinson College. Since then, I’ve been trying to figure out a whole heap of things and am now a musician (composer, pianist, organist, singer, conductor, teacher) and poet.
I like Nature. I really think on the whole that nature has got it pretty right. I think music is one of the deepest ways to connect (i think the same about poetry, incidentally) and is infinitely rich. I think the lessons we learn from music teach us about life, and visa versa. I love playing – being silly, making worlds, having conversations, dancing, joking – in whatever form; it feels nourishing. I think nonsense is under-rated and recommend you – whoever has made it this far down this rambling epistle – takes a moment to (a) give yourself a hug (b) express any hatred you may feel for bracketed letters (c) set a timer for a minute and a half and (d) be weird in whatever way tickles you for that time.
On a slightly more serious note, I am always eager to collaborate with people, as a performer, composer, poet, teacher or human. If you are interested in working with me, I would love to hear from you. Please find my CVs below (click on image to read document) for even more information and if you are curioser than Alice, I am always happy to chat, so feel free to contact me here.
